You know I’m not one to write posts not about aftg a lot

But I’ve been seeing a lot of media demonizing Serena Williams for “taking away Osaka’s moment”

Which, yes, she did take away attention with her outburst but media also takes away context (and as history and present day news shows, context is immensely important)

Serena Williams is one of the most successful athletes of her field, and she’s a black women. Over and over we see people in her career try to belittle her or take away her victories.

If you’ve seen the match, or saw the news about it, you’d see that Serena was penalized unfairly for something she did not do. You can see and hear her humiliation and despair.

Yes, Naomi is talented, and she deserves that win (she has amazing stats and is arguably the better player in regards of talent)(and I believe that even without Serena’s penalty she still would’ve won) but the match was not fair.

And if you still disagree, what would you say to Williams comforting Osaka at the trophy ceremony?

Serena has stumbled and overpassed a lot of obstacles before, but not one where she was humiliated to the point of loss.

The match is amazing, but it’s been tainted by unfair penalties and poor media coverage.

Her coach admitted to signaling her. How is it fair to Naomi to let her opponent flaunt the rules just because she’s black? Serena is pretty widely recognized as the greatest female player in the game, with a record to match. She’ll survive being expected to follow the rules.
