Maybe I’m just being a bitter dean girl but I feel like the show is slowly becoming Sam centric again (like the first few seasons) and the writers are forcing Dean along for the ride in a very out of character way. In the last few episodes the opinions he’s made seem to not matter to anyone and just continue to make Dean do things that he is very uncomfortable with to further Sam’s plot.

At the moment, I think the show is “everyone but Dean” centric. So when it’s just Dean and Sam hunting in a MOW, it’s Sam who gets more of the focus: He gets to talk to the guest stars and lately he’s been getting more of the kills. When Cas eventually pops back up, he gets most of the focus while Dean wrings his hands over Cas’ choices and welfare. Even Crowley gets focus in his scenes with Lucifer. And then there’s Lucifer who’s had this big story arc this season (I’m so sick of this character). Sure Dean has had some angst to deal with due to Mary’s return, but that’s about all.

Dean’s role this season is to be the guy getting stepped on by his family. You have Mary, Sam, Cas (and even Crowley), all making choices Dean doesn’t like or agree with. You’re right that Dean seems so uncomfortable with accepting not just Sam’s but Mary’s and Cas’ choices as well.

So far, everyone has lied to Dean about something or withheld information. And I can’t help but think about the last scene between Dean and Sam in last night’s episode and how completely resigned Dean seemed. The guy looked beat down and sad. I don’t like seeing Dean that way.

I’m not sure how this show will resolve things by the end of the season. I can only guess that something bad happens. If I trusted the writers on this show at all, I’d say Dean would either get fed up with the way his warnings and concerns are being ignored; he gets caught in the crosshairs and ends up hurt; maybe he decides enough is enough and goes “rogue” which could result in the BMOL targeting him; but what I’d really like is for Dean to leave and take some time out from his ungrateful family.
