I don’t think Sam intended to kill Dean, he just wanted to make an “enough is enough, leave me alone” point. The more Sam tried to ditch Dean, Dean found a way to find him. “Choking/strangling w/e” was just a “you need to back off” gesture.
But that was never my point. My argument with those fans was that Sam took both of his hands, wrapped them around Dean’s throat and squeezed until Dean could barely breathe.
They, on the other hand, completely ignored my point and argued that Sam did neither of those things. They also went on and on about the usage of ‘choked’ and ‘strangled’. Basically, they talked around my point because they did not want to own up to Sam’s horrific attack on his brother.
I never once said that Sam tried to kill Dean. Does it really matter anyway? Dean was beaten and broken, laid out on the floor, and Sam ‘choked’/ ‘strangled’/’constricted Dean’s airway with his hands’: choose your poison. In that moment, Sam became the monster he and Dean were afraid he would become. And the irony of it all, is that they were fighting because Sam was upset at Dean for insinuating that Sam was a monster. (And then soon after this scene, Dean kidnapped a possessed nurse, bled her, and drank her blood.)
One of the most horrific scenes in the series, in my opinion.
Ah, the irony of it. Another person trying to downplay what happened, on a post about people downplaying it. Sam strangulating his own brother has nothing to do with “You need to back off”. Cause see, knocking him k.o. would’ve been enough to make this point. He did that. And then he proceeded to go further. Sam did not simply try to distance his brother, he literally CHOKED him after Dean was lying incapacitated and defenseless on the floor. This not about “Leave me alone”, this is about power dynamics. This is Sam saying, “You’re so weak I could kill you right now, you’re only still alive because of my own mercy”. This is not about being left alone, but about submission.
Sam totally didn’t choke him… nope. Definitely DID NOT happen. Except that it did.
