Sam said yes to Lucifer to save the world with the plan to jump into the cage.
Cas basically got his feelings hurt and impetuously said yes with absolutely no thought behind it.
Tell me again who’s the “mud monkey” and who’s the millenniums old being who should be too smart for what he did?
Cas did what he did for purely selfish reasons. He wanted to prove he wasn’t as useless as the angel and Amara said.
And to make it even worse for us, Mishmash has already totally ruined the character of Lucifer with his over the top cartoonishness.
Um wrong. Cas said yes because he’s been made to feel expendable. Always bleeding for the Winchesters and ready to sacrifice his life for them. He has given everything he has and is for the Winchesters who haven’t exactly been there for him.
It wasn’t at all selfish. He was doing it to save THEM. You know, the two asshats who treat him like shit unless they need him for something.
And it seems to be only a minority (the Misha haters) in this fandom who don’t like Misha’s interpretation of Lucifer, everyone else INCLUDING JENSEN! Has complimented him on it and praised him for it.
Actually know what you’re talking about before you open your mouth.
Lucifer’s cartoonishness comes from Mark’s acting back in season 7. Was that a bad choice? yeah. Could they have done something different with the character (and by them I mean the writers)? Absolutely. Is Misha an amazing Lucifer with the material he is given? HELL yeah.
Also, if I may…
IF we are going to assume that Cas said yes to Lucifer for “purely selfish reasons” because “he wanted to prove he wasn’t as useless as the angel and Amara said” he was? THEN I am sorry but we have to measure Sam with the exact same bar.
Sam didn’t say yes to Lucifer out of any selfless reason. He said yes to Lucifer as part of his ongoing quest to prove that he was “better” than his brother whom had just been beaten both physically and psychologically for thinking that if he (Dean) said yes to Michael, they had a good chance to end the Apocalypse with minumum blood shed. But Sam couldn’t allow that. And instead, he decided with no good reason that he would be special enough to be able to contain Lucifer by will power alone.
Because Sam wanted to prove to his brother that he was a hero. That he was better. That he was worthy.
OR we can be logical and assume that Cas said yes to Lucifer because he honestly thought that Lucifer was the best shot humanity had to beat Amara and thus gave everything to help his friends, same as Sam said yes because he was ready to make the ultimate sacrifice and redeeem the mistake he made a season earlier.
Since, you know, it’s obvious that THAT second paragraph is what the writers intended in the first place.
Plus I think he also did it for Sam because he was scared that Sam would give in and say yes again in order to defeat Amara. And since he took on Sam’s memories of the Cage and knows what happened during Sam’s time in the cage, he did not want Sam to get the brunt and pain of those memories back. But, no he was totally being selfish when he did what he did.
I don’t usually repost these threads, but those answers were just do damn good. Especially that last one.
Plus, why would anyone assume that this is the time Cas decides to be ego-driven and selfish? Every time he’s been asked, he gives up everything he has for the Winchesters. We got the whole torture scene at the beginning of the seasons with the angels literally spelling it out for us. Any time Cas has to chose between the Winchesters and literally anything else, he chooses the Winchesters. Every time. So why, after 8 years, would this time suddenly be different? Maybe he interpreted being “expendable” as a good thing. Maybe he realized that of everyone he knows, he’d rather die than let them come to harm. How is offering yourself up to The Actual Devil a selfish act? Cas has not been ego driven since his failures as Godstiel. This isn’t about looking good to the humans he loves. It’s about saving them. Misguided as his choice was, it was an honorable one. It’s also mirrored by Dean’s choices in Red Meat. To sacrifice himself to save his family. Who else do you think Cas learned this trait from? He’s watched Dean pick self sacrifice over open communication for 8 years. I’d be shocked if Cas hadn’t made this choice, honestly.
Or, you know, you can keep on hating on a main story line that has clearly been going over your head for 6 seasons…
Let’s just take a look at the things that happened before Cas said yes to Lucifer.
Dean was unable to kill Amara and admitted that to Cas.
Sam went to the cage God was talking to him. Now after all this time when God has never given a fuck about him he thought he was so special God was talking to him. He didn’t listen to his brother to leave well alone and then went behind Dean’s back AGAIN to go Scheme with Crowley and Rowena to get to the cage. May I remind you that this is the same Rowena who at the end of last season fucked them over, cursed Cas and ran of with the BOTD.
There is one recorded incidence of the Darkness being defeated and Lucifer did it. Why wouldn’t Cas let the ONE being with PROVEN abilities get a chance to do what everyone had failed to do? By yeah sure Cas is selfish. For wanting to right the wrongs of Sam and Dean Winchester. Or did we forget that they are dealing with this because Sam wouldn’t leave the mark alone?
