unpopular-opinions-of-2016:

When will people stop blaming their parents for everything they do?

“If you just let us drink a little bit with our friends, we wouldn’t have to go out and get wasted.” Your parents don’t let you drink because it’s ILLEGAL to drink underage. And your parents are not forcing you to go out and get wasted, you’re doing that because YOU want to.

“If you let us have sleepovers with the opposite sex, we wouldn’t have to stay out all night just to be with them”. If you have to sneak out to be with them, that’s why your parents don’t want them over. Do you think you would want your kid doing god knows what with their s.o behind closed doors?

“If you let us dress how you want, we wouldn’t feel so ugly.” Unless your parents tell you that you look ugly in certain clothing, your confidence has nothing to do with your parents.

“If you let us look how we wanted, we might feel like we fit in.” Honestly, you will ‘fit in’ regardless how you dress or look. No one cares if you wear makeup or not, or if you dress differently than someone else.

And your parents can’t “ban” you from seeing your friends at school. If your parents think a kid is a bad influence on you, they’re probably right. A parent won’t ban another kid from seeing you for no reason.

“If you weren’t so ashamed of who we were, we might not judge and bully other people for being different.” You being a bully has nothing to do with your parents, that’s just you being an asshole. Unless your parents have expressed how ashamed they are to have you as their child, you have no right to assume that.

“We’ll make our own way.” How do you expect to be a mature young adult, or ‘make your own way’ when you’re blaming your parents for everything you do wrong?
