Remember when Dean thanked Ruby for taking care of Sam while he was in hell?
Remember when Dean thanked Sully for being there for Sam when Dean wasn’t/couldn’t.
Remember when Sam threatened to kill Benny, had a mentally unstable Martin stalk Benny, helped cuff his unconscious brother to a radiator, and destroyed Benny’s last bit of happiness and his reason for staying topside?
Remember when Sam basically expressed to Dean in the season 8 finale that he didn’t like it when Dean turned to others (Benny and Cas) in his (Dean’s) time of need, even when Sam could not be there for Dean himself? And fandom praised Sam for standing up to Dean? And Dean was forced to reassure Sam that nobody came before him?
The beauty of double standards. This show. This fandom.
Good times.
//snickers loudly
so I showed this post to @aria-lerendeair because her Sam love is as great as my Cas love and if any of you know me at aLL, that’s saying something so I wanted to pick her brain about it
here was her response, which honestly I think is worth reading and learning from because even as a casual Sam fan I felt like I had a religious experience
Sam is expressing that Dean turns to anyone other than him the second he gets a chance, and then Dean TOUTS how important family is the entire time, like there’s something Sam has done wrong.
I think here, especially, Sam thinks that Cas has/will leave Dean. And while Benny saved Dean in Purgatory, he was a vampire. There’s NO MENTION of the fact that Dean left Sam for Lisa. Because Sam believed Dean had a life beyond HIM. And he thinks that Dean desperately needs that. ALSO, I’m fucking sorry, but they’re IGNORING the whole shitstorm that Dean THROWS at Sam right before Sam goes to confess his sins. Like, I put that shit in a fic, I have the fucking quote. Dean rattles off a list of the shit that Sam should confess. Ruby, the demon blood, killing Lilith, letting Lucifer out, like, Sam fucking INTERRUPTS him to stop it. Was that really, truly fucking necessary? So yeah, it really isn’t unreasonable when Sam, dealing with WHATEVER the power surge to close the gates did to him, and the emotional fucking train wreck Dean put him through by casually listing all the stuff he should ask forgiveness for…. Like, sorry, Sam wasn’t in his right mind, in ANY way at the end of Season 8, so nothing he says there should be held against him. Also, I mean, fucking ALSO, whose fault is it that Ruby had to take care of Sam? WHOSE fault was it that Sully needed to take care of Sam? LET’S SEE. Dean, Dean and oh hey, DEAN. ALSO, okay, I’m fucking sorry, Sam had to kill what’s-her-name in Heart, right? Sam had to KILL the first girl he cared about since Jess, because she was a monster. Why WOULDN’T he expect Dean to do the same to a vampire? No matter how he felt? Also, on a totally separate note, the fucking show? Is written from Dean’s perspective. Like, if someone were telling the story and is the main protagonist? It’s Dean. So of COURSE shit ends up weighted in Dean’s favor. Like, the first couple of seasons, everyone thinks Sam is a whiny fucking brat because that’s how Dean sees Sam! Like, GIVE THE GUY A BREAK, HE DID SEE THE GIRL HE LOVED GET BURNED ALIVE ON THE CEILING AFTER HE’D BEEN HAVING NIGHTMARES ABOUT IT FOR MONTHS THAT HE DIDN’T TELL HER ABOUT. Like, I’m sorry, but you wanna fuck a dude up? That’s how you do it. The simple fact is? They’ve both fucked up. They’ve both hurt each other. But Dean, Dean does it to Sam WAAAAY more than the other way around. How many times does Dean pick someone else, or something else over family and then has the GALL to say “I’d pick you before anything” Also, I’m sorry, but when Sam was ready to walk away, to take Death’s hand and walk away from life, Dean using the “There ain’t no me if there ain’t no you.” is the WORST kind of manipulation. Also, I’m fucking sorry, it was Dean’s LAST resort. Like, why the hell didn’t he say that FIRST? So it’s not a double STANDARD. The way you presented it? Sure. But with proper context? No fucking way. drops mic
So many things wrong with this response where does one begin?
“Sam is expressing that Dean turns to anyone other than him the second he gets a chance, and then Dean TOUTS how important family is the entire time, like there’s something Sam has done wrong.”
He did do something wrong. Very wrong. He abandoned Dean (and Cas) in purgatory and also abandoned Kevin and didn’t even bother asking another hunter to help him.
“There’s NO MENTION of the fact that Dean left Sam for Lisa.”
That’s because HE DIDN’T. He tried to find a way to get Sam out of the cage, he said he researched so much, but he couldn’t find a way. Unlike Sam who didn’t lift a finger to try to find Dean in purgatory. And once Sam came back, he left Lisa. I don’t even know what you’re talking about.
“Also, I mean, fucking ALSO, whose fault is it that Ruby had to take care of Sam? WHOSE fault was it that Sully needed to take care of Sam? LET’S SEE. Dean, Dean and oh hey, DEAN.”
First of all, Sam is a grown man who doesn’t need anyone to ‘take care of him’. Second of all, Dean was being grateful to people who helped Sam out when he couldn’t. Sam is ungrateful to Benny and Cas at the end of Season 8 which is the WHOLE POINT of this post.
“Sam had to KILL the first girl he cared about since Jess, because she was a monster. Why WOULDN’T he expect Dean to do the same to a vampire? No matter how he felt?”
She couldn’t control herself and asked Sam to kill her. Benny could control himself and did. DEAN HAD NO REASON TO KILL BENNY. Again, I have no fucking clue what the hell you’re talking about.
“Like, the first couple of seasons, everyone thinks Sam is a whiny fucking brat because that’s how Dean sees Sam!”
No, it’s because that’s how Sam acts.
“Also, I’m sorry, but when Sam was ready to walk away, to take Death’s hand and walk away from life, Dean using the “There ain’t no me if there ain’t no you.” is the WORST kind of manipulation.”
Gadreel said that line NOT DEAN. Jensen confirmed that and it’s obvious just from fucking watching the show. And Sam made his choice to say Yes to being rescued from Death. No one forced him.
I could say more but I’ll leave it at that. This entire response is ridiculous, takes things out of context and I honestly have no idea how you could watch the show and think any of this response is truthful.
