The whole thing where Mary is supposedly avoiding her sons because she is upset they were raised hunters is so fucked up. She’s their mother. She should be heartbroken on THEIR behalf that they have become this, not on HERS.
MARY: “Boys, I am working with the organization that abducted you, tortured you, mind-raped you, and tried to kill you multiple times. They have murdered innocent people, and are super shady. I have lied about this, and my withholding information almost got Cas killed. Although I have betrayed you, I am doing this for you. You know, for reasons.”
DEAN: “I am mad about all those things! What you have done has hurt me, mom. I wanted us to be a family and you are making that incredibly difficult with all your shitty shitty decisions.”
End of “The Raid”
DEAN: “Mom, I am sorry for being mad that you dared make your own choices in life. Because not wanting you to work for the enemy and screw us over, is apparently sexist or something? Because obviously that means I just think your entire purpose in life is to make me a sandwich.”
MARY: “Apology accepted Dean.”
ME: “…WHAT THE FUCKKDJJHGHFUCK FUCK!! HAVE I FALLEN THROUGH A DIMENSIONAL PORTAL AM I HAVING A STROKE WHAT IS THIS HOW DOES THIS EVEN RELATE TO WHAT HAPPENED 44 MINUTES AGO??!?!
DID THE LAST PAGE OF SOME OTHER EPISODE GET STAPLED ONTO THIS SCRIPT, AND NOBODY NOTICED???
THAT END IS NOT THE RESOLUTION TO THAT BEGINNING!! DEAN’S FEELING ARE VALID! MARY FUCKED UP! MAYBE SHE HAD GOOD INTENTIONS, BUT SHE FUCKED UP! WHAT IS THIS? WHY DID THE SHOW ACT LIKE DEAN DID SOMETHING WRONG (OTHER THAN THEIR GENERAL PHILOSOPHY OF “DEAN IS TERRIBLE”)?? NOT WANTING YOUR MOM TO WORK WITH SHADY PEOPLE WHO WANT TO MURDER YOU =/= THINKING THAT YOUR MOM’S ONLY PURPOSE IS TO MAKE YOU A SANDWICH. dean winchester deserved a childhood and he deserved parents who were doting and loving and he deserves to not have his traumatic past swept under the rug and he deserves to be able to be affected by it and not have to hide his feelings and most of all he deserves a hug
John didn’t treat him like a child, and Mary was gone. Dean’s chance to be someone’s baby was stolen from him. 😢
Plus how is these even valid coming from Mary? When did Dean ever ask to ONLY be a mom – she didn’t even try to be a friend frankly, never mind a mom. How come we’ve seen Ellen be a hunter and a mom and we’ve seen Jodie be a hunter and a surrogate mom(she was a mom but that was before she was a hunter). It’s entirely possible to do all sorts of thing AND be a mom too.
But Mary has’t even really been a good friend to them, never mind even attempting to be a decent relative. “Not just a mom” -Mary you’ve haven’t been anything remotely like a mother since you got back…so why act like somehow you’re insulted?
Frankly I wish Dean would have added something in there about that’s right you aren’t a mom, I was and I was a dad a lot of times too, someone had to be. It’s really ridiculous, Dean managed to be a better parent as a child than either of his parents manage to as adults. And I don’t care if it’s “weird” for Mary, she still gave birth to them, it’s not unheard for parents and children to only meet in adulthood and to still at least attempt to feel familiar warmth, Mary hasn’t done that. Not until she joined the BMOL cult and they wanted to get her sons to join the cult too.
I’m happy to see Dean and Mary making amends and Dean realizing his mistake by letting Mary make her own choices, regardless of how much he don’t like them.
Also it looks like Sam wants to be in with TMOL. I don’t like this, although TMOL do need the Winchesters to give them a much needed kick in the arse, especially given how totally unprepared they were.
He was always letting Mary make her own choices, I have no idea where the little “narrative” started that he didn’t. He’s allowed her plenty of space while still trying to maintain contact and she used it to go behind their backs and lie to them.
I’m pissed as hell that the show forced Dean to apologize for quite honestly his perfectly reasonable feelings about the entirely selfish and self-centered person Mary has been acting like.
But that’s the way the show is, unless Dean is falling in line, he’s in the wrong and has to apologize for daring to feel anything but the most positive emotions towards his family and friends, no matter how badly they treat him and frankly Mary hasn’t even been a good friend, never mind an even halfway decent relative.
“It’s not your job to make my lunch and kiss me goodnight… We’re adults… You gotta make your own choices even if I don’t like ‘em.”
I mean… unless I’m missing something… NONE OF THAT WAS THE PROBLEM THEY WERE HAVING.
Well, maybe, kind of sort of, part of the “problem” they were having was that Dean wanted them to be more of a family now that Mary was back…but at what point did he want her to baby him or Sam?
Asking her to treat them with respect isn’t some weird unreasonable infantile demand that she coddle them.
Nor is expecting her to tell them the truth.
And “choices”?!
Her choices got people killed! She worked with people who tortured her family! She was going to let Castiel die to hide that she’d stolen the Colt!
This speech makes it sound like they were arguing about who she could and couldn’t date!
The first part of the episode was so bloody good. How much did I love Dean calling his mother “Mary” rather than “mom”.
And then of course it all went down the drain when Sam went and met with Mary.
Yep, he picked a side alright.
After that first part we got, what, four and a half minutes’ of Dean? Mostly we actually got scenes of a black car driving from left to right.
And hey, Sam saw the light! The Alpha vampire – who they had a bloody good arrangement with up to now – is dead. Let’s all work on Dean so that ha can see the light too!
Looks like Sam is exactly as much in need of dissonance reduction as his stans.
What a piece of fucking drivel. Yeah, make Dean apologize, it’s what you’re good at.

I think Dean wasn’t in that episode much because Jensen had just had the twins.
That aside, I hate that they made Dean apologize to Mary and the reason why they had him apologize was so forced. Dean fearing for Mary’s safety is not antithetical to him being angry at her. JFC.
