So proud of my mother for doing her own research after I sent her that meme. A sign she hung in her car window.

Stay woke

Is this true?

Not only is it true, it gets worse. The Susan G Komen For The Cure Foundation has actually successfully sued “competing” charities, because (paraphrasing) their “message or branding was infringing.”

You read that correctly: they took money that people had donated to cure cancer, and hired attorneys with it, to sue ANOTHER group of people trying to find a cure for cancer, who, in turn, had to us their donated money to hire their own legal counsel to defend themselves.

Yeah signal boost because not enough people know about this and seriously FUCK SUSAN G. KOMEN THEY ARE THE ACTUAL WORST

(reblogged in honor of my mother, who died of breast cancer, 11/13/97)

Reblog every time I see it. Roughly once a month.

Also please never forget the pink fracking drill bit

that’s right
fracking
you know, a process using chemicals known to cause cancer that leech into the water supply

It’s that time of year again, please remember Komen is the actual worst

Komen For The Cure is pretty much awful.

My mother died in 1996 from breast cancer. Most cancer charities are scams, in that people throw fancy parties and get rich off them and very little money goes into research or support for patients. Here are some vetted cancer charities that get good scores on Charity Navigator and pay medical expenses or fund research:

Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Cancer Research Institute

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

63 four star rated cancer charities on charity navigator

Signal boosting this

Reblogging from myself because it’s October now

Almost charity season!

This man is my hero.

He’s like a Monty Python character.

He paved the way for future trolls and I fear that most of us have not lived up to the standards he set.

update: apparently the word was “shit”

I’m not saying all canon destiel shipping is bad by any means, but I do desperately want to tell most meta writers to please make a friend or two. Or else learn how to say something could support your reading of canon without all the dramatics, because every time I see someone in tears that Cas wore Dean’s socks or whatever I want to die.

i am fascinated (and kinda depressed) by how it used to be canon-verse shipping was the in-character way of reading deancas (as opposed to wildly ooc aus).  and how now it’s a complete farce, because the writing has become so bad ‘canon shipping’ means writing increasingly dumbass ‘meta’ to bait your followers into buying some theory about why background extra’s clothes mean endgame deancas

Oh worm.

Anon asked: Thanks for your 5×15 gifs – they work great to emphasize the contrast between them. It’s been 13 years, and I still can’t work out why Sam’s emotionally immature – look at how much more human Dean’s response is (yet again). He doesn’t care about ‘the world’, he cares about his almost dad getting hurt and sad and possibly killed. I dunno, I just love Dean so much.

I think there’s a lot more going on here

than Sam only caring about the town instead of Bobby. Dean tends to express his emotions more than Sam does. He’s much more emphatic (and chaotic) when he’s emotional, whereas Sam sometimes seems  unemotional to the point of appearing cold (not that I think he is cold, but he tends to bite back on intense emotions so it can look that way).

I think part of what’s happening here also is that Sam isn’t as close to Bobby as Dean is. I always get the feeling that Bobby is more of a father figure to Dean than he is to Sam. Sam, after all, had Dean to be his pseudo-father figure. Not to say Bobby wasn’t important to him, or even that he wasn’t another father figure to Sam (because he is, since soulless Sam tried to kill him because he was a father figure), but Dean only had Bobby in that role when John failed him. Sam had Dean and Bobby and we all know that Sam is much more attached to Dean as a person he looks up to and seeks approval from, etc than he is to Bobby. I mean, how often have we seen Dean getting talks from Bobby, whereas we rarely get that with Sam. The big one that comes to mind straightaway is right before Bobby died so it was kind of the big this is it moment for closure. Dean also tends to be more respectful toward Bobby in a fatherly way. When Bobby reprimands him, Dean gets apologetic and guilty, whereas Sam just rolls his eyes. Here’s two instances, both of the boys pissed off at different times, both asking, “What the hell, Bobby?” really aggressively and this is the difference (3.10 and 5.18):

Another indicator that Bobby and Dean share a more parental type relationship than Bobby and Dean do. But yeah, beyond that, Dean is very much people we love oriented, the heart choice as they say; and Sam is often more about the smart choice. It’s not more human, it simply is a difference between them. Sam’s being logical, with his well of course Bobby chose his dead zombie wife over us, it’s his wife whereas Dean isn’t being logical because he thinks with his heart instead of his head when it comes to family (and remember Sam doesn’t think about family the way Dean does either). And in Dean’s head he says I can’t believe Bobby just threatened to shoot us over his zombie wife, she’s not even really his wife anymore! And if we want to examine this further, maybe Zombie Wife had a good point when she says Dean doesn’t understand love in the way she and Bobby are to each other.

Dean’s never really loved anyone that way. But Sam has, so maybe that’s another reason for the difference in the way they approach it. Maybe Sam gets that Bobby picks her over them (although to be honest this is just me trying to understand Sam and Bobby, because I don’t understand picking a spouse over your children either so I’m with Dean on this one) because he loved Jessica that way.

And now my wandering brain is wondering if Dean’s rejection of Bobby in 5.18 might have anything do with Bobby’s rejection of him in this episode, since Dean tells Bobby he’s not his father only a few episodes later…

But my problem is that Sam also doesn’t make the smart choice. And often gets carried away and chaotic when it’s HIS insecurities/feelings at play. When it’s others feelings he’s generally distant. And like, maybe that could’ve been really interesting, if they’d acknowledge that & have some semi consistent growth.

YOU DONT UNDERSTAND —- MY UNCLE IS A FARMER
AND ONE DAY HE WAS GOING OUT TO CHECK HIS CROPS
HE NOTICES A TRACTOR JUST GOING AROUND IN CIRCLES
Thinks, “That’s weird, I go check it out”
HIS FUCKING NEIGHBOR FELL OFF HIS TRACTOR AND GOT RAN OVER But he was on a slope So the tractor went around and around in circles
Running him over each time
and he was pressed into the ground like a fucking cartoon
How long had he been there? Maybe an hour.
He was alive, and fine. Just pressed into the dirt like Wile. E Coyote and was so stuck in there that he couldn’t move so he just kept getting run over until my uncle found him
