I CAN ANSWER THIS!!
In the Cornish dialect of English, Pokemon meant ‘clumsy’ (pure coincidence).
In the mid 1800s there was a surge of writing about the Cornish language and dialect in an attempt to preserve them with glossaries and dictionaries being written. I wrote about it HERE.

You know when you’re writing and you know the exact fucking word you want to use but you don’t know what it is so you’re just going through a list of words that might be close to it and then look up synonyms to those words and after half an hour you realize the word doesn’t fucking exist.
