First Home in the U.S. specifically for sex-trafficked boys is set to open in late 2016. Of course neighbors pulled a stink and tried to get the house shut down before it even opened.

I CANNOT believe how much resistance they’re facing.
People are worried about their property values when these young boys have literally been sold as sex slaves and raped and abused in who knows how many other ways. They just need a safe place to heal and protection while they testify against their abusers so we can put the actual criminals in prison.
And people are worried about them “taking their medicine” like we’re trying to cure them of something. These are trafficking victims. But apparently people are more worried about these boys than they are about making sure the people who abused them go to prison.
Oh man, as soon as I get a little extra money I’ll be donating to this fine cause because this is just fucking great. I hate all the shit they’re getting for it, but shit or no shit I want to support these people.

I love that every few months this post gets another surge of notes, and now is good a time as any to give an update.
In late Fall last year, the area of North Carolina where this house is set to be opened experienced a lot of very bad flooding. This has set them back. They wanted to be open by now, but they have finished restoring the house and are now working on furnishing it so they can open soon.
The link above is broken, so here is an updated one. You can see they now have a registry for Target and Walmart open. If you want to donate by buying items they need to furnish it, you can do so this way.
roto-rooter has done this while servicing the music school next door to my store 3 times, and every time their snake has demolished our toilet. the first time they did it it spewed sewage everywhere and they had to have like a hazard cleaning crew come and sanitize everything. luckily the other two times it only fucked up the tank and flooded the back room with clean water. but what the fuck. those things are too powerful y’all need to stop

It has Tim Allen (Buzz Lightyear, Santa Claus, and Tim Taylor of Tool Time), Sigourney Weaver (Dana Barrett from Ghostbusters, and Ellen fucking Ripley from Alien), and Alan Rickman (SEVERUS SNAPE) playing the Kirk, Uhura, and Spock roles
Sigourney had lines like:
“Well, Alex, at least you had a part, okay? You had a character people loved! I mean, my TV Guide interview was six paragraphs about my boobs and how they fit into my suit. No one even bothered to ask me what I DO on the show.”
and
“Look, I have one job on this lousy ship. It’s stupid, but I’m gonna do it, OKAY?”
which spoke directly to how ridiculously sexist so many female roles on TV (especially shows that can get away with throwing their female characters into skin-tight suits) are written, and also perceived by the fanbase.
Alan Rickman plays a character who is pretty much 900% done the entire way through the movie, and still managed to give me massive amounts of feels.
Tony Shalhoub (Monk) plays a perpetually stoned Scotty character who falls for a hot alien chick. Yes, there is interspecies romance in this movie.
Yup, an interspecies couple where the chick has tentacles and the guy is really into it.
The villain is played/voiced by Robin Sachs (Ethen Rayne from Buffy)
Sam Rockwell (we know him as Justin Hammer from Iron Man 2) plays an extra.
One of the awesome aliens is played by Enrico Colantoni (Veronica Mars’s dad)

The above cutie is Justin Long (star in another all time favorite movie of mine, Accepted) who plays one member of a group of fans who analyze the show like we do with our shows, and ends up saving the fucking day because they analyzed everything so well.
That’s right.
This movie is about fans saving the actors when the show turns out to be real.

A favorite of mine
It often gets included in the top ten of Star Trek movies when ‘Trekkies’ are asked to rate the film’s, too. I love it. It gently mocks without being sneering and the fans become heroes who help save the day. It’s wonderful in so many ways.
