why is concept art always 300% better than the final product especially in western animation

99% of the replies to this are twelve page essays about how time consuming it would be to animate concept art like . buddy. i know. im in film school for animation. u ppl needa know how 2 see a funie joke on the internet and move on without takin it so seriously

aight but have none of those ppl seen The Book of Life bc uh lemme tell you

the concept art and the finalized versions of sets, characters, and scenes in the film look THE SAME. The Book of Life had a lower budget than Frozen too so uh…….. 👀 y’all need to open ya eyes

tbh the book of life looked even better than its concept art

“animation is so haaaard” 1. yeah that’s why animators go thru school to learn to animate 2. disney has enough money to have Anything animated Ever it doesnt get any excuses lol

I admit, going to Uni and learning just how much effort goes into concept art and animation as a whole – I can understand people not wanting to really do animated beautiful painted scenes. ESPECIALLY with 3D.

Buuuuuut Book of Life shows how animation can push its boundries and eventually go ‘nah shove it we’re gonna get artsy as balls’. And with technology constantly progressing and getting better – see Moana’s hair and water rendering software that Pixar say wouldn’t have been able to manage five years ago – I can imagine we’re going to get some gorgeous movies that won’t leave the concept art out to dry.
