She just always misses the point so spectacularly, doesn’t she?
And who did she try to bring the subject back onto?
Hmmm, possibly SAM?
‘Dean sure had a heavy burden.’
‘But Sam had it worse.’
She just couldn’t help herself with this post.
And from what I remember of show canon, Dean only left when he was going stir crazy from being Mom and Dad 24/7 or when Sam was old enough to look after himself as we saw with the Sully episode. Plus I think Sam and Jared would both argue that Dean is the one who took care of Sam and raised him and made his life easier. Its why Sam wanted him to come to Stanford with him…so Dean could have a normal life and they could have a normal sibling relationship. I love how they only love Dean when he is sacrificing himself for Sam and how dare he want anything for his life ofher than Sam. @hastobealock, did that make sense? Feel like I am rambling.
That makes perfect sense & I 100 % agree.
I also think Jared would definitely agree that Dean basically raised Sam(while maybe throwing Bobby in there too for good measure).
“often Ditched” is a very loaded term.
Dean, in text, has left Sam alone OUT OF Dean’s will TWICE. Once when he went for a couple of hours to play videogames because he was 10, bored out of his skull, and had no idea his dad was probably using them as bait, and later when he was a teenager (16? 17?) and was leaving him in what he thought was a safe place at the pizza place (We don’t know exactly how many times he left Sam there, given that Sam has been known to exaggerate and Dean doesn’t contradict Sam when Sam is wrong about Dean, but lets’s say it was once every time they were where those restaurants were around. Given that in 230 episodes they have seen ONE of those -as opposed to the many Biggerstons- I am going to assume it was not more than a handful of times. Also, given the timeline, it was not long after Dean was in Sonny’s care, namely, when he was told he COULD be a normal teen)
Every other time? It was because JOHN dragged him to a hunt. And I wonder how the hell was Dean supposed to go against John’s orders. Or how we’re supposed to believe John would leave Sam completely alone. (This happens in only two episodes too)
Finally, the one time Dean put his guard down, Sam ran away. And Dean? Dean had to deal with the consequences.
But let’s go back at how Sam suffers the most. It is always so enjoyable to focus only on Sam.
I know. Seriously a 9 year old walked across the parking lot of the motel to play a video game in the lobby after being cooped up in a motel room with a 5 year old(who was now sleeping) for THREE days. SO irresponsible, look at him ditching his responsibilities.
Plus I really don’t think Dean being forced to leave Sam alone by John, when Dean clearly didn’t want to leave him, shows that Dean was “always ditching him”.
So we have two out of the three events we know that essentially don’t even count – because walking across a small parking lot to play a video game hardly constitutes “ditching”.
What we saw was that at 9 years old, Dean is actually far more responsible than his parent – because John left them alone with no way to contact him and help hundreds of mile away(Pastor Jim) for 3 days. And was also possibly using them as BAIT for a monster, meaning John was actually using 9 year old Dean, who himself was potentially a victim of the child killing witch, as the FIRST line of defense.
And the other event Dean was forced by John to leave Sam.
So that leaves what? 1 time? Because you know, leaving a 12 or 13 year old alone for a few hours every once in a while doesn’t constitute “ditching”.
Oh dear, Sam had to cook for himself every so often(yet we know, within the canon of the show, that more often than not Dean fed them(him and his million ways to dress up macaroni and cheese for example:)) So Sam cracking open a can of soup every once in a while, while Dean was the one doing it most of the time, to the point that he actually looked for ways to make the meals more interesting, hardly constitutes “Oh poor neglected wittle Sammy”.
They were both neglected by their father but Dean went way above and beyond to take care of Sam as well as he could, being a child himself.
THIS.
